Professor Taleb takes wireless data transfer into the cloud

Professor Taleb is excited about his professorship at the Aalto University Department of Communications and Networking, and wants to make research results available to benefit the business world. His research field is the wireless data networks that exploit cloud technology, and their life cycle management. The research looks at solutions for building flexible virtual wireless networks dynamically into the cloud.
'It is believed that cloud-based wireless networks will be part of the 5G network, and operators, commercial actors as well as providers of cloud-based services are very interested in them. Cloud-based wireless transfer of data provides efficient solutions to a lot of the problems that operators currently face', says Taleb.
Taleb was awarded his doctorate at Tohoku University in Japan in 2005, only two years after he had been awarded his degree at the same university. After his doctorate he acted as an assistant professor at the Tohoku University Graduate School of Information Sciences, which was in close cooperation with the second largest network operator in Japan, KDDI.
After Japan, Taleb's career continued at NEC Europe in Heidelberg in Germany, where he was a senior researcher and specialist on 3GPP standardisation. There he lead a unit that was carrying out research and development on cloud platforms provided by operators. He was also responsible for leading the largest work package in the EU project Mobile Cloud Networking.
Turning academic research into business
At Aalto University, Taleb wants to establish a world famous academic research group which is a pioneer in applied research on wireless data transfer. He believes his own tenure track professorship will create good possibilities for that.
'Aalto University is a prestigious young university that wants to promote start-up activity. I sincerely hope that I could create successful worldwide business through research.'
Taleb participates actively in the operation of the international science community and he has several responsible positions in IEEE, for example. In addition to Arabic, Japanese and English, Taleb also speaks French and German.
To counterbalance work and travelling, Taleb spends time with his family doing various things. One of the hobbies that the family has in common is cooking.
